When you were younger, chances are you thought that the four main food groups were delivery, take-out, frozen and canned. As we get older, we start realizing that if we do not feed our bodies foods that are actually beneficial, we are going to suffer the consequences. The reality is that fresh whole foods have a great potential to help fight aging and disease. On the other hand, if you eat a diet that is loaded with fast food, boxed and canned food you are placing yourself at a great risk of leading an unhealthy life. The reality is that once you pass 30, it becomes much easier to gain weight than it is to lose it.
The problem for most of us is that at some point when we get fed up with what we see in the mirror we make impossible diet plans and vow to change. Then, life gets in the way and although we secretly hate ourselves for it, we go back to our old ways. This cycle can continue for years. And, with each time we lose weight only to gain it back, the losing gets harder.
The solution to this is simply to find a healthy lifestyle that you can live with. It does not need to be extreme and it needs to involve foods that you actually like. You would be amazed at how small simple changes can impact your health. For instance, trade in your white rice dish for a much healthier quinoa. You will save yourself from unhealthy white carbohydrates and increase the amount of protein in your diet. If snacking is a major issue for you, it is important that you realize that just because you are making a commitment to your health does not mean that you have to give it up. In fact, snacks can really help keep your metabolism up throughout the day. Try making healthy hummus recipes, which are loaded with protein and fiber. Serve it with celery and carrots and you have a healthy snack that is also delicious. Life is short and food is made to be enjoyed. The key is finding a balance where you can eat smart foods that taste great!
